SnowLeopards//RareAgileElegance

These rare, beautiful gray leopards live in the mountains of Central Asia. They are insulated by thick hair, and their wide, fur-covered feet act as natural snowshoes. Snow leopards have powerful legs and are tremendous leapers, able to jump as far as 50 feet (15 meters). They use their long tails for balance and as blankets to cover sensitive body parts against the severe mountain chill.

TimWalker//PastelCats//1998

"A lot of people get confused when they see this image. They think it was done by a computer, but we actually took pigment power, mixed it with talc to get the right ice-cream pastel colours, and brushed it into the cats.

The owners were two proud members of the Persian Cat Club. I can't remember how I found them, but they turned up in a van, covered in cat fur, and stood breathing down my neck as I took the picture. We were worried about putting all that powder on the animals' fur, but they said, "Oh no, they absolutely love it!" The cats were such vain creatures - they adored being touched and pampered."

SandDuneCat-ViciousHuntress

The Sand Cat, felis margarita, is a small wild cat of African and Asian deserts

Unusual among Asian cats, the sand cat has long hairs growing between its toes. These create a cushion of fur over the foot pads, protecting them from the hot sand. The claws on the hind feet are small and blunt; combined with the fur covered foot pads, this helps to make the animal's tracks obscure and difficult to follow.

Among Saharan nomads, sand cats have gained a reputaion for being snake hunters, favoring the flavors of horned and sand vipers. Sand cats stun this prey with rapid blows to the head before dispatching with a killer neck bite. More here...
